The after report of the 12th Asia Pacific Poultry Conference (APPC)

The 12th Asia Pacific Poultry Conference (APPC) was held successfully from November 1st to 3rd 2023, in Nanjing, China, and it was jointly organized by the World’s Poultry Societies Association-Asia Pacific Federation (WPSA-APF) and the Chinese Association of Animal Science and Veterinary Medical (CAAV) and Beijing Boyar Communication Co., Ltd (PCO).

Under the theme of Scientific Solution for Safety and Healthy Poultry Industry, 88 internationally and domesticate China renowned experts, scholars and technical elites from companies were invited to share the latest advances on global poultry scientific and technology research, innovations and applications. During the three days, in total 1,422 domestic and foreign delegates attended the conference, including 141 international delegates from 22 countries and regions outside China.

During the opening ceremony, Mr. Qiao yufeng, vice president of CAAV delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the Chinese organizers; Ms. Michèle Tixier-Boichard, the president WPSA send her congratulatory video; Prof. Zou Jianmin, the co-chair of organizing committee, director of Poultry Science branch of CAAV, director Jiangsu institute of Poultry Sciences delivered a speech on behalf of the organizing committee; Dr. Sakchai Sriboonsue, the president of WPSA-APF affirmed the importance of APPC in providing a platform for exchanging knowledge, ideas, and innovations for poultry industry.

Mr. Ma Chuang, the co-chair of organizing committee, vice-Secretary General of CAAV, Vice president of Beijing Boyar Communication, senior VP of Asia-Pacific Federation of WPSA, as the Chair of opening, he emphasized that the poultry science and technology community and industry in the Asia-Pacific region should strengthen interaction and exchange. And on the WPSA-APF board meeting during APPC, he was elected to be the new President to succeed Dr. Sakchai’s position, and he is going to support WPSA-APF to continue to make more achievement deliver more contribution for the poultry industry in the Asia-Pacific region.

In the plenary session, four Key-note Speakers gave presentations, Prof. Chen Hualan gave her presentation of Highly pathogenic avian influenza control in China, Dr. Yuval Cinnamon delivered presentation of The Story of GOLDA - The Hen that Lay Eggs from which only Females Hatch, Mr. Nan-Dirk Mulder gave his presentation of Global poultry industry perspective - Challenge and Opportunity, the topic of Prof. Hou Shuisheng’s presentation was Waterfowl Industry and relevant technology Development of China.

6 Informative parallel thematic sessions were held on November 2-3, during which:

  •  In Genetics and Breeding Session, 14 experts in total made presentations. This session discussed about in recent years, the cutting-edge research results and development experiences in broiler and layer breeding in recent years, which is of vital importance in helping to breed poultry breeds better adapted to China's breeding environment and market demand, as well as to improve the competitiveness of the industry.
  •  In Health and Disease Control Session, 12 experts in total made presentations. They discussed prevention and control strategies for disease, health management methods and epidemic monitoring.
  •  In Waterfowl Session, 12 experts in total made presentations. It promoted in-depth understanding of waterfowl production technology, breeding methods, and market opportunities.
  •  In Nutrition and Health Session, a total of 17 guests on-site gave rich and exciting presentation, including new research, cutting-edge topics, innovative technology and others, also provided many practical solutions to the poultry nutrition industry.
  •  Precision Farming, Low Carbon and Environment Management Session, this session brought inspiration and case sharing on poultry farming model, digital intelligence application, energy saving and environmental protection, and animal welfare.
  • Prevalence of Avian Influenza Globally and Prevention Strategy Session, it provided effective ideas and solutions on how to better prevent, monitor and respond to avian influenza, which possessed a serious threat to the poultry industry, thus ensuring the sustainability and healthy development of the industry.

271 Chinese and English abstracts from scholars globally have been collected into the proceedings of the conference, further, 39 outstanding young scholars made oral presentation and 59 young scholars participated the poster communication onsite.
APPC have an exquisite exhibition area, 38 well-known enterprises set up their own booths. Pulike Bio-engineering and Elanco Animal Health held satellite sessions on the disease control of poultry, especially the prevention and control of avian influenza specific solutions and practical experience.

With science and technology as the main line, APPC 2023 established an international exchange platform for "fostering, research and development, academics and trade cooperation", it helps the Asia-Pacific poultry industry to create new thinking, develop new technologies and produce new products. During the three-days, a variety of topics, effective integrated solutions and experiences were shared through presentations, Q&A dialogue on conference, interview and tea-break. The success of the conference has deepened the communication for the poultry industry of Asia-Pacific region and greatly promoted a lot of new technology and innovations.
