Prof. Han, Jae Yong received his bachelor and master degrees in Seoul National University, Korea. Since his completion of Ph.D. degree in University of Minnesota, USA in 1991, he appointed as a professor of Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, Seoul National University. His academic specialties are avian transgenesis, genome editing and germ cell biology. He has made outstanding achievements in his researches on production of avian germline chimera by germ cell manipulation and genome editing. Specifically, his laboratory developed in vitro long-term culture system of chicken primordial germ cells (PGCs) for subsequent genome modulation of the PGCs. More recently, he has studied the early embryo development of avian species for in-depth understanding of germ cells, and has expanded his research to wild bird species by studying the primordial germ cells of zebra finch. In addition, he is producing a genome-edited poultry for development of disease resistant line and avian bioreactor model that uses the characteristics of avian species to produce useful proteins including bio drugs, and bioactive molecules. He is recently running the project “Center for Avian Germ Cell Modulation and Cloning” awarded by National Research Foundation of Korea.
